Carl Johan De Geer is a living legend. 84 years old now. But lively and resilient. He can't walk down a street in Stockholm without someone coming up and wanting to talk about the TV series Tårtan or some other older work. However, he does a lot of new things. In the break between two exhibitions at institutions, "The great misunderstanding" (Thielska gallery 2021-22) and "Släkten och slavarna" (Forum för levande historia 2023), he cycles the half-mile daily to his studio in Årstaberg. There he paints pastiches of the works of the great Nordic painters from around 1900. He then feels great joy in his work, especially when he puts the final score, a wistful moose.

An act of love for Edvard Munch, Prince Eugen, Carl Fredrik Hill, August Strindberg, Ivan Aguéli, Åke Göransson, Eugène Jansson and Carl Kylberg. My male role models, says De Geer.
