Johan Engqvist (b. 1990) works with painting. In his practice, abstraction, figuration and decoration are regularly mixed. He examines the relationship between painting and other artistic practices such as arts and crafts, design, architecture and interior design. The variety of references and methods taken from different artistic fields is a way for Engqvist to expand his perception of what a painting can be, what it can do and contain.
