Julius Nord (born 1992 in Linköping, based in Stockholm) was educated at the Royal Institute of Art, where he earned his Master of Fine Art in 2023, following a Bachelor of Fine Art in 2021. His work explores the tension between structure and improvisation, order and chaos, with the aesthetics of sport—movement, rules, and rhythm—as a central reference.
In the current series, Nord takes the form of the tennis court as his starting point. He borrows its lines and logic but leaves behind its measurements and rules. The surface becomes a living, dynamic space where form can breathe and grow in new directions. Working in oil on canvas, he builds layers that shift between thin, transparent veils and thicker, more physical passages, where color creates tempo and friction. In some paintings, the lines hold the image together; in others, they slide, break, or disappear.
Nord’s artistic practice reflects the training, repetition, and sudden deviations of sport, as well as its resistance and surprises.
