Scholarship Exhibition: Alexander Bäckman, Maja Möller, Peter Andersson

20.8 - 5.9 2026
Opening reception Thursday, August 20, 5:00-7:00 PM

Gallery Helle Knudsen is pleased to present a scholarship exhibition with Alexander Bäckman, Maja Möller, and Peter Andersson. Each year, Galleri Helle Knudsen awards several grants to promising artists in collaboration with the art society Konstsällskapet Våga Se. As a natural extension of this work, the gallery has over the years hosted numerous scholarship exhibitions, giving emerging artists the opportunity to present their work to a broad audience in a professional exhibition setting. These exhibitions have become a valued part of the gallery’s program and serve as a way to introduce new artistic voices to the art scene. Alexander Bäckman, Maja Möller, and Peter Andersson were three of the recipients in 2025.

Alexander Bäckman

Alexander Bäckman, Mitt fönster (My Window), Oil on wood

Alexander Bäckman, (b. 1993) is based in Stockholm where he is studying a Master’s in Fine Art at Konstfack.

In my artistry, I seek beyond my habitual visual language, what my hand intuitively wants to create, while embracing the familiar intuition. I am interested in the moment when our gaze meets the world, whether through open or closed eyes. I anchor my work in a symbolic language that I balance on the edge of the banal, an area I find liberating in its creative potential. I am drawn to small movements or fleeting moments and explore and amplify their significance.

Maja Möller

Maja Möller, Samman-Knuten (Bound-Together), Tapestry with unwoven/exposed warp

Maja Möller (b. 1990) is based in Uppsala and is currently studying The Craft Master’s program with a textile focus at Konstfack.

Illusions and shadow effects are something I often return to in my works. The way our brains take in information but sometimes distort it or filter out parts fascinates me. How one can trick our eyes and create works that seem to distort reality and cross dimensions. I want my works to be a bit like a puzzle where the search for a solution is more important than whether a solution actually exists.

Peter Andersson

Peter Andersson, Wishes come true, they come false as well, Jesmonite and concrete

Peter Andersson (b. 1988) is based in Umeå where he is studying a Master’s in Fine Art at Umeå Art Academy.

I have always been fascinated by people who wait. Preferably in groups. By observing and recreating different scenes where people wait together, I explore their interactions and social codes expressed in subtle gestures, glances, and shifts in posture.During the bachelor's program, I was introduced early to bronze casting and completely fell in love with the process. The steps from molding a sculpture to finished bronze each have their unique and intricate techniques and methods that must be experienced and felt to learn what problems and solutions can/usually arise along the way.
