Joseph Davey was originally from Sussex and studied painting at Brighton University (1999-2001) and stayed in Brighton for a few years after that. He has been painting continuously ever since, and 15 years ago, he moved to Östersund, where he now lives and works.
He works from the source material in his studio, almost always photographs that he took himself. This allows him to reflect on the selected images and the reason for the collection. It also allows Joseph's painting practice to be contemplation, reflection, expression, and documentation of poignancy occasions in his life.
