Ida Westberg: When the Days Are Long

When the Days Are Long is Ida Westberg’s first solo exhibition at Galleri Helle Knudsen. In her artistic practice, she works with textiles in the form of weaving, embroidery, and installation. The works presented in the exhibition were created through a process in which Westberg first works outdoors, painting a place in watercolour on cotton canvas. She later continues the work in the studio, embroidering further on the canvas. Through working outdoors, she feels that her senses open up and that she becomes receptive to the landscape in which she finds herself. In this way, the process becomes a dialogue with the place.
Slow down, open yourself up, take it in. Let yourself be shaped by a place. The images in the exhibition were made during the summer months, when the days are long. During artist residencies, I have depicted places I have visited. By slowing down and opening myself up, I have explored how we are shaped by our surroundings. Some places affect us more deeply than others; a particular place can evoke a certain feeling or put us in a particular state. – Ida Westberg
