Soejvene comments on our colonial history and questions how and for what purpose museum collections have been assembled. Objects from the Sámi culture, even human remains, have been gathered and displayed to the public. Through his art, Tomas Colbengtson strives to give voice to the unseen and create a dialogue between the past and the present. He aims to increase understanding of Sámi culture and the challenges that indigenous peoples face in today’s society. We still carry that part of our shared history, where the language and faith that were forbidden have created a void in the Sámi identity and life. Questions about the right to one’s own history concern all people – regardless of where one comes from.
