Julius Nord (born 1992 in Linköping, based in Stockholm) was educated at the Royal Institute of Art, where he earned his Master of Fine Art in 2023 after completing a Bachelor of Fine Art in 2021. His work explores the tension between structure and improvisation, order and chaos, with the aesthetics of sport – movement, rules, and rhythm – as a central reference.

In the exhibition Shadow Court, Nord draws inspiration from the shape of the tennis court. He borrows its lines and logic but leaves behind the measurements and rules. The surface becomes a living, moving space where the form can breathe and grow in new directions. Using oil on canvas, he builds layers that shift between thin, transparent veils and thicker, physical areas where the paint creates tempo and friction. In some paintings, the lines hold the image together; in others, they slide, break, or disappear. Nord’s artistry reflects the training, repetition, and sudden deviations of sports, as well as its resistance and surprises.

Shadow Court is Julius Nord’s first solo exhibition at Galleri Helle Knudsen. He has previously held solo exhibitions at, among others, Falsterbo Art Hall, Härnösand Art Hall, Eksjö Museum, and Väsby Art Hall. His works are represented in the Ståhl Collection as well as in regions and municipalities across Sweden.
