Meridian is Lukas Cornix’s third solo exhibition at Galleri Helle Knudsen and presents an energetic painting style with a multi-layered narrative: hard-to-reach terrains, hidden scenes and fragmented subjects. There are hints and clues but no direct answers.
Over the past two years, his painting practice has predominantly taken place on paper, which benefits his approach and process. Cornix works very swiftly and intuitively. It is crucial for his exploration of mixed techniques and the type of painting he seeks to achieve. He aims to approach a painting style that combines intricate and unpretentious gestures.
The painting practice I am looking for takes place outside the paintings. Ideas are born from the margins. Stains and paint splatters that occur on studio walls. Odd combinations of the mediums and coincidences that happen on palettes. It is an incredibly honest painting that connects to the basis of my artistry: creative joy. - Lukas Cornix
Lukas Cornix was born in 1993 in Växjö. He lives and works in Malmö, where, in 2022, he received his Master’s from the Academy of Fine Arts in Malmö.
