Collection: William Jernberg

William Jernberg (born 1999, active in Örebro) is educated at Umeå Academy of Fine Arts. In his practice, Jernberg explores how images take shape and how we perceive them. The motifs often emerge gradually during the work process, where people and animals appear without a given function. Instead, they become parts of the image's structure or responses to impulses that arise in the process, carrying a charge that can be crucial to the whole.

“It is vision that is at stake for me and that I try to explore. I partly think of my painting as a kind of vision test. Not the optometrist’s vision test, which looks at the sight in the eye. With images, I seek vision through the eye.”

An important shift in his work came in the winter of 2022, when he began using oil pastel – a material that opened up new ways to work visually and shapes his visual world today.
