Wikström's painting is characterized by a personal visual world where everyday details are transformed into poetic, sometimes dreamlike scenes. She often works in smaller formats and lets both image and words interact, even though the works usually lack a title – thus inviting the viewer to make their own interpretation without guidance. In her art, we encounter human-like animals or mythical creatures that seem to function as alter egos and bearers of emotions such as vulnerability, desire, and longing. The serious often gets a playful framing, marked by subtle humor and a kind of quiet melancholy.
