Wikström's painting is characterized by a personal visual world where everyday details are transformed into poetic, sometimes dreamlike scenes. She often works in smaller formats and allows both image and words to interact, even though the works usually lack titles – thus inviting the viewer to make their own interpretation without guidance. In her art, we encounter human-like animals or mythical creatures that seem to function as alter egos and bearers of emotions such as vulnerability, desire, and longing. The serious often receives a playful framing, marked by subtle humor and a kind of quiet melancholy.
