The child lies in the Sámi cradle, “Gierkeme.” The image connects to Sámi cultural heritage and to how traditions, objects, and knowledge are passed down between generations.
Tomas Colbengtson (b. 1957, Björkvattnet, Tärnaby) works with memory, history, and questions of repatriation and decolonization. His art draws on his own experiences and traditional Sámi crafts, through which knowledge and stories have been passed down through generations. The crafts embody experiences of a life close to nature and an understanding of how people depend on and interact with their surroundings.
