Tomas Colbengtson was born in 1957 and raised in Björkvattnet, Tärnaby. His artistry is based on memories and experiences from the life and current situation of the Sami people. It shines a spotlight on Sami history. The school, which affected even the very youngest, had profound consequences for the Sami language. Southern Sami almost died out in the Tärna area. Sami religion was banned. The state conducted racial biological research, forced relocations, and other methods to control the indigenous people of the Nordkalotten. His works also deal with pride in the Sami heritage and the knowledge that comes with it.
