Tomas Colbengtson was born in 1957 and raised in Björkvattnet, Tärnaby. His artistry is based on memories and experiences from the life and current situation of the Sámi people. It shines a light on Sámi history. The school, which affected even the very youngest, had profound consequences for the Sámi language. Southern Sámi nearly vanished in the Tärna area. Sámi religion was forbidden. The state conducted racial biology research, forced relocations, and other methods to control the indigenous people of the North Calotte. His works also speak of pride in the Sámi heritage and the knowledge that comes with it.
